GERRI becomes association

With the founding of an association, the German Resource Research Institute is taking the next step to further promote the bundling of raw material expertise from science and industry for the German economy.

The promotion of science and research in the field of raw materials is one of the most important goals of the association. "We represent the interests of German resource research in Germany and abroad and manage strategic research cooperation. By networking actors and pooling expertise, we are a decisive point of contact for raw materials, which become an increasingly important topic for industry and society alike," explains Prof. Dr. Dr. Markus Reuter, Director of the Helmholtz Institute for Resource Technology (HIF) at the HZDR and First Chairman of the association. Prof. Daniel Goldmann, head of the Institute for Processing, Landfill Technology and Geomechanics at Clausthal University of Technology, was elected second chairman.

TU Bergakademie Freiberg presents the 69th BHT University Forum

The 69th BHT - Freiberg University Forum will take place from 6 to 8 June 2018 under the theme "Future Materials - Safe Resources Supply - Circular Economy".

The established annual convention creates a dialogue between research, industry and society to discuss the latest trends in research and development. This year's focus is on the finite nature of our planet's natural resources, leading to a rethinking at all stages of the value chain, from the extraction of raw materials to the processing and design of products to their recycling strategies. To this topic, the 69th Freiberg University Forum offers a series of lectures on the development of innovative and sustainable materials, new technologies and efficient recycling processes to promote an advanced circular economy and to strengthen competitiveness in Germany and Europe.

New associated partners! BAM and TH Nürnberg join GERRI

In early 2018 the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and the Nuremberg Institute of Technology (or Nuremberg Tech) joined GERRI as associated partners. BAM is a scientific and technical institute with responsibility to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi). As an interface between economy, science and politics, BAM will be an important partner in the GERRI network. The federal authority has state-of-the-art testing facilities and strengthens our service divisions with its expertise in materials testing and development.

Furthermore, Nuremberg Tech joins the network, represented by the Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering under the direction of Prof. U. Teipel. With a research focus on particle technologies and raw material innovations and efficiency, they are expanding our team very well. GERRI is looking forward to the upcoming cooperation with both institutions.

BGR joins GERRI as associated partner

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), a subordinate to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), will be an important partner to the German raw materials research network GERRI. BGR will support GERRI not only with its “hot wire to Berlin”, but also with geoscientific advice and technical infrastructure. The central authority holds expertise complementing the raw materials network’s with competences in the first phases of the value chain: „Exploration & Mining“, „Modelling“ and „Processing“.

The BGR’s Deutsche Rohstoffagentur (DERA, German Mineral Resources Agency) publishes reports and studies on availability and application of resources which are of strategic importance for the economy, politics and research. Within the GERRI network, the partners will work together on a sustainable, “ecological and economic use […] of natural resources” as BGR describes its mission.
