Federal Instistute for Geosciences and Natural Resources - BGR
The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), a subordinate agency to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), is the geoscientific center of excellence within the federal government and part of its scientific and technical infrastructure. The central authority holds expertise complementing the raw materials network with competences in the first phases of the value chain, particularly with research concerning Exploration and Mining. BGR supports the German raw materials research network. GERRI not only with its “hot wire to Berlin”, but also with geoscientific advice and technical infrastructure.
The BGR’s Deutsche Rohstoffagentur (DERA, German Mineral Resources Agency) publishes reports and studies on availability and application of resources that are of strategic importance for the economy, politics and research. Within the GERRI network, the partners are working together on a sustainable, “ecological and economic use […] of natural resources” as BGR describes its Mission.
