Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.

Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Our research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As raw materials become scarcer and more expensive, we are laying the foundations to secure industry’s supply of raw materials in the long term, allowing it to continue to occupy a leading position in high-tech. To do this, we are researching innovative potential separation, sorting, processing and substitution techniques, and developing strategies for sustainable ways to use valuable resources.

⇒ Represented by Fraunhofer Project Group Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies (IWKS)

The goal of the Fraunhofer Project Group IWKS is to make materials and valuable substances recyclable. We focus on this future-orientated task through applied research and development on new recycling technologies and substitutes of scarce raw materials and metals together with our partners from research and industries. Our core competences are concentrated in the three business divisions:

  • Resource Strategies
  • Recycling and Reusable Material Cycles
  • Substitution
